Hello friends! Welcome to my blog. Let me start by being honest. I know little to nothing about blogging and my technology skills are quite slim, so bear with me!

Anyway, thanks for finding your way here. I am excited for the potential of this little space in this giant world of the interwebs.

The idea for this blog began one morning when I was supposed to be doing something productive, but instead I was deep in an endless Instagram hole believing the lies of social media. These lies are the ones that make me believe that people have perfect lives and perfect marriages and go on perfect adventures and drink perfect lattes and take perfect selfies on mountain tops. The truth is, I spent a lot of my time believing these lies to the point that I felt pressured to live up to the expectations of literal strangers behind my phone screen. Ridiculous!

So on this particular morning, after beating myself up for being imperfect and unproductive, I began thinking about what all these perfect people do during the mundane parts of life – the parts of life that happen in between the Instagram stories and the latte drinking. As I thought about my own life and marriage, I realized how important the times are when things are not necessarily good or bad, just normal and mundane. I began to wonder what social media would look like if people shared more of the mundane parts of their life. Like the times when the dog poops on the floor at 2AM and both Kyle and I try to ignore the smell so we don’t have to clean it up. Or the times when we don’t have plans on a Friday night so we sit on the couch and try to figure out how to start a blog. These ‘blah’ moments make up so much more of our lives than the exciting ones, and I think if we shared the ‘blah’ parts of life more, we would become better, more understanding humans. Because relationships are built on hearing and sharing stories and if our stories only include the great parts of life and leave out the mundane, honesty falls to the wayside, and our relationships become bland and fake. So what to do?! In my case, I felt that it was necessary to reboot my story-telling by getting off of social media (more on that in a later post) and setting new life goals. My goal was this: to live simply and honestly through the mundane parts of life.

And then I thought, “Hmm, that would be a good concept for a blog.” After sharing my idea with friends and family, Kyle made it happen through his magical technological powers, and here we are!

So welcome to Through the Mundane – a space that I hope will be refreshing, truthful, raw, honest, simple, and FUN! I am excited to keep my friends and family updated through a new lens that will showcase the good, the bad, and the ugly. Thanks for being here, for being you, and for following along!
